Browning A5 Serial number. I have been trying to research my gun and can't find much with serial numbers. I inherited it from my grandfather and I'm just curious what I have. On the bottom of the receiver it is stamped with OM and under that is 12887. Barrel is stamped made in Belgium special steel 12 ga. 2 3/4.

I was going to get some shells and give it a whirl to insure proper function.Acier Special means "special steel" it is not the model. C 12 designates it as a 12 gauge. And from the markings on the barrel it is not a Browning, but rather it is a shotgun made by FN in Belgium for sale outside the USA. They were not officially imported to the US.
